ESPN NBA insider Brian Windhorst believes the Knicks are among a "handful" of contending clubs that will jostle to land Durant in the coming weeks. Windhorst expects the Suns to look into Durant's market "pretty soon," as the franchise recently has been focused on identifying a new head coach.

In recent weeks, the San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets and Minnesota Timberwolves have emerged as the three supposed front runners for trading for Durant, although it still remains a mystery which team will ultimately acquire Durant and the package the Suns will receive for him.

Durant signed with the Nets in June 2019 and sat out the next season due to his Achilles injury. The two-time NBA champion then helped Brooklyn beat the Boston Celtics in the first round of the playoffs the year after that, but got eliminated by the eventual champion Milwaukee Bucks in seven games the next round.
