So Hollywood is finally making a move to try to protect intellectual property from generative AI. Disney and Universal have together filed a lawsuit against Midjourney, the company behind one of the most popular AI image generators, over rip offs of characters and art styles from the likes of The Simpsons and Star Wars.

Hollywood’s Disney and Universal have filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against an AI firm, which they describe as a "bottomless pit of plagiarism". This comes as those working in the film industry have continually voiced their concerns over AI’s impact on their work.

"Piracy is piracy," says Disney's chief legal officer, as the studios aim to show that tools allowing personalized AI slop creations of characters like Darth Vader or Shrek run afoul of their IP.
