The largely peaceful protests during the "No Kings Day" demonstration in downtown Los Angeles took an intense turn in the afternoon. Police ordered the crowd to disperse at about 4:15 p.m. PDT near Alameda Street and Temple Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department's Central Division.

Charged in incident is Joseph R. Checklick Jr., 21, accused of intentionally accelerating his vehicle into the dispersing crowd, striking at least one person.

A 21-year-old Culpeper man was arrested after allegedly driving his SUV into protesters leaving a "No Kings" rally. No injuries were reported, but police say more charges could follow.

Motorists in two cities across the nation have struck “No Kings” protesters, according to multiple reports. Police detained two motorists whom they say intentionally drove into crowds of protesters in San Francisco, California and Culpeper, Virginia. There is no reason to believe the two incidents are connected.

Millions of people turned out for "No Kings" protests nationwide on Saturday that were largely peaceful though there were some arrests and police had to disperse unruly crowds, including in Georgia and Los Angeles.

The"No Kings" protests are planned to oppose what they see as Trump's power grab. The number of planned events is nearly double that of the April 5 "Hands Off" protest that saw millions of Americans turn out in big and small cities nationwide.
