At least four people have been killed and others remain missing after dangerous flash flooding impacted Wheeling and surrounding communities in West Virginia this weekend.

Homes were completely destroyed and water could be seen flowing over the tops of cars that were abandoned as people climbed trees or the sides of hills to get out of the water’s way.

At least three people were killed and several others remained missing Sunday as flash flooding tore through a West Virginia county. About 2.5 to 4 inches of rain fell in 30 minutes across Ohio County, in the state’s northern panhandle west of Pennsylvania, according to county emergency management director Lou Vargo.

More thunderstorms are on the way, with multiple states under flash flood watches or similar alerts on Monday.
